Nrisimha Pranâma

 

 

Chapter 6: The Hymn of the Original Person Confirmed

(1) The Creator said: 'Voicing the fire the mouth is the center generating the hymns to which there are seven coverings [worlds ...] of offering the nectar and all sorts of food to the tongue in respect of all the delicate. (2) To the nose there is the life-air and the air outside for the generation of the transcendental experience of longevity [the As'vinî demigods] with all the medicinal herbs and the taking pleasure in fragrances. (3) The eyes that see all kinds of forms as also all the illumined that glitters to the eyeball of the sun, accompany the hearing of the ears of all the sounds of veneration resounding in the sky from all directions. (4) His surface [of the Universal Form] is the ground for all articles and auspicious opportunities as well as the field for production, while His skin of the moving airs makes the touch for sure generating all kinds of sacrifices also. (5) His bodily hair is the vegetation in the kingdoms, from which in particular the sacrifices are done to which the hair on His head, His facial hair and His nails make for the stones, the iron-ore and the clouds with their electricity. (6) His arms, the governing men of god, do mostly provide and protect the general mass. (7) His progressing with the lower and middle worlds as well as in heaven, providing for all that is needed of fearlessness and all the benedictions, is known by the Lord His lotus feet giving shelter. (8) Of water, of semen and of the generative of rains one realizes oneself the genitals of the Creator, the Lord and also the spot wherefrom the happiness originates engendered by the [need of the] begetting [of offspring or cultural products]. (9) O Nârada, the orifice where the evacuation of the Universal Form takes place is of Mitra, the controlling deity of everything running to its end and forms the rectum where envy, misfortune, death and hell is remembered. (10) Of frustration, immorality and ignorance His backside is found, while the rivers and streams [as said] make for His veins and the mountains for the stack of His bones. (11) The unseen mover [the time] of the seas and oceans of the becoming and annihilated beings as seen from His belly [the middle worlds, S'iva], is known by the intelligent as the [beating] heart with the subtle body for its location.

(12) Of the Great Personality is your, mine and also my sons' [the Kumâras] conscious heartening of the [religious] duties in the continuity [S'iva, the continuing soul facing the destruction] and the transcendental knowledge, the essential consciousness [soul] of truth. (13-16) Me, you, the Lord continuing [S'iva], as also certainly the great sages before you, the godly, the demoniac, the human beings and the excellent [the Nâgas], the birds, the beasts, the reptiles and all the heavenly beings as well as the plants and many other living entities on the land, in the waters and in the sky, together with the asteroids, the radiant leading stars, the comets, the lightening and thunder - certainly as whatever was, is and will be created, are all together of the Original Person who covers all in the idea of measuring only half a foot [see also 2.2: 8]. (17) The same way the sun in spreading its rays is outside, gives the life energy (inside) and illumines his path, is there likewise by the expansion of the universal form, the Supreme Person vitalizing the internal and external of life. (18) He is the controller of the immortal and fearless in the transcendence over death and the fruit of anyone and therefore, o Nârada, are the glories of the Original Personality seen as being immeasurable.

(19) You should know that all the living entities exist in one fourth of the Supreme Person who is the immortal, fulfilling and fearlessness reservoir of all opulence beyond the material coverings of the three worlds. (20) The three fourths of Him in the beyond is where those reside who will never be reborn; but within [the material world] are there the three worlds [heaven, purgatory and hell] for the status orientations of those who, not strictly following the vow of celibacy, are attached to family life. (21) Thus neatly ordering the destination of the living beings, is the Maintainer ruling the devotion of both the nescient as the ones factually knowing, and is He thus, as the Original Personality of God, the master of both of them. (22) From whom all the planets and the gigantic universal form came, appeared the elements and the senses to the material qualities of the universes, to which the surpassing by that Universal Form is alike the way the sun relates to its distributed rays and heat.

(23) When I took birth from the lotus flower from the navel of this great person, I did, except for the personal limbs of the Original Person not know of the ingredients for performing sacrifices. (24) For the performance of sacrifices, is the sacrificed such as flowers and leaves and the burning material [such as straw] needed together with an altar as also the great of time [a calendar e.g.] in following the modes of nature. (25) Utensils, grains, fuel [clarified butter], sweetener ['honey'], capital ['gold'] and a fire place ['earth'], water, the scriptures ['Rig, Yajur and Sâma Veda'] and [at least] four [leading] persons are comprised in this, o pious one. (26) It also involves the invocation of holy names and mantras as also contributions and vows concerning the specific godhead at hand for which there is a particular scripture for each specific purpose. (27) For progressing to the ultimate goal by means of the worship and surely also the compensation with the ultimate offerings to the diverse parts of the body of the Original Person [the representing demigods], I arranged for the ingredients. (28) Thus well-equipped worshiped I, executed by all those expansions of the Original Person, the Supreme Personality, the original enjoyer of all sacrifices. (29) Thereafter your [god-]brothers, the nine masters of the living creatures [schools; demigods next to Brahmâ; compare 5:30], performed with proper ritual for the personalities seen and unseen. (30) In following those [schools or demigods] also the Manus, the fathers of mankind, worshiped in due course of time, pleasing Him, as also did the other great sages, forefathers, scholars, devotees, and mankind as a whole.

(31) For the sake of Nârâyana, the Personality of Godhead, came all these greatly powerful manifestations, having accepted the material illusion of form in the universal sphere, into the existence of creation, maintenance and destruction, even though He Himself is self-sufficient above it. (32) To His will, I create while under His subordination S'iva destroys, with Himself thereto as the controller of the three energies maintaining the whole Universe as the Original Person.

(33) Thus I explained on your request all this to you, my dear, concerning the matter of never having anything else beyond the Supreme Lord in thinking of cause and effect. (34) O Nârada, for sure never did this state of mind prove to be false at any time, nor was my train of thought ever of the untrue, nor were my senses degraded in the temporal, because my heart with great zeal caught hold of the Lord. (35) Being successful in the austerities of vedic wisdom according the disciplic succession, worshipable as the master of all the forefathers and expert and self-realized in the practice of yoga, I couldn't fully understand Him from whom the self generated. (36) I am [therefore] devoted to the all-auspicious feet of the Lord of the surrendered souls, who stop the repetition of births and deaths and grant the vision of happiness; one surely cannot estimate the potency of His personal energies - as the way the sky can't see its own limit, therefore: how can others know? (37) Since neither I, nor all you sons, nor the Destroyer can factually know [of all] His movements, how then then would the other God-conscious? The intelligence bewildered by the illusory energy of what is created can only see as far as one's ability reaches.

(38) Our respectful obeisances unto Him, the Supreme Lord, whose incarnation and activities we glorify, even though persons like us do not fully know Him. (39) He, the very Primordial Original Personality in each millennium creates from the unborn soul to the [material] self, by His own Self, His own transcendental presence maintaining Himself [for some time] as well as absorbing [Himself again]. (40-41) Without a material tinge, pure and perfect in knowledge and all-pervading in His fullness He is situated in truth as the absolute without a beginning and an end, free from the modes of nature and eternally unrivaled. O wise one, the great thinkers can only understand this with a pacified self and their senses under cover, otherwise it will certainly be beyond their scope and distorted by untenable arguments. (42) The first incarnation of the Lord, the Original Person [Mahâvishnu or Kâranodakas'âyi Vishnu] is time-space [the original nature of time]; and cause and effect, the elements, the modes, as also the ego, making for the Universal Form [virâth rûpa] of the movable and immovable of the Lord [also called Garbhodakas'âyî Vishnu].

(43-45) I myself [Brahmâ], the Destroyer and the Maintainer, all the fathers of the living beings like Daksha [and Manu], you yourself and the other sons [the Kumâras], the leaders of the higher worlds, the spacetravelers, the earth and the lower worlds, the leaders of the denizens of heaven [of the Ghandarva,Vidyâdhara and Cârana worlds] as well as the leaders of the demoniac [the Yakshas, Râkshasas and Uragas] and the underworld as well as the leaders of the sages, the forefathers, the atheists, the miraculous, the uncivilized and also the dead, the evil spirits, the Jinn and Kûshmândas [other evil spirits] and the great aquatics, beasts and birds - in other words anything and everything in the world that is of power to a special degree or of a specific mental or perceptual dexterity or exceptional strength, forgiveness, beauty, modesty, opulence, intelligence or breeding are as if they are the form of His transcendental reality themselves, but in fact they are only a fragment of it. (46) O Nârada, now relish the devotion for the pastimes of all those incarnations of the Original Supreme Personality that will evaporate the foul matter accumulated in your ears. I will relate them, all a pleasure to hear, one after the other as they are in my heart.

Text 1

Lord Brahmâ said: The mouth of the virâth-purusha [the universal form of the Lord] is the generating center of the voice, and the controlling deity is fire. His skin and six other layers are the generating centers of the Vedic hymns, and His tongue is the productive center of different foodstuffs and delicacies for offering to the demigods, the forefathers and the general mass of people. Text 2

To the nose there is the life-air and the air outside for the generation of the transcendental experience of longevity [the As'vinî demigods] with all the medicinal herbs and the taking pleasure in fragrances.

His two nostrils are the generating centers of our breathing and of all other airs, His smelling powers generate the As'vinî-Kumâra demigods and all kinds of medicinal herbs, and His breathing energies produce different kinds of fragrance. (Vedabase)

 

Text 3

The eyes that see all kinds of forms as also all the illumined that glitters to the eyeball of the sun, accompany the hearing of the ears of all the sounds of veneration resounding in the sky from all directions.

His eyes are the generating centers of all kinds of forms, and they glitter and illuminate. His eyeballs are like the sun and the heavenly planets. His ears hear from all sides and are receptacles for all the Vedas, and His sense of hearing is the generating center of the sky and of all kinds of sound. (Vedabase)

 

Text 4

His surface [of the Universal Form] is the ground for all articles and auspicious opportunities as well as the field for production, while His skin of the moving airs makes the touch for sure generating all kinds of sacrifices also.

His bodily surface is the breeding ground for the active principles of everything and for all kinds of auspicious opportunities. His skin, like the moving air, is the generating center for all kinds of sense of touch and is the place for performing all kinds of sacrifice. (Vedabase)

 

Text 5

His bodily hair is the vegetation in the kingdoms, from which in particular the sacrifices are done to which the hair on His head, His facial hair and His nails make for the stones, the iron-ore and the clouds with their electricity.

The hairs on His body are the cause of all vegetation, particularly of those trees which are required as ingredients for sacrifice. The hairs on His head and face are reservoirs for the clouds, and His nails are the breeding ground of electricity, stones and iron ores. (Vedabase)

 

Text 6

His arms, the governing men of god, do mostly provide and protect the general mass.

The Lord's arms are the productive fields for the great demigods and other leaders of the living entities who protect the general mass. (Vedabase)

 

Text 7

His progressing with the lower and middle worlds as well as in heaven, providing for all that is needed of fearlessness and all the benedictions, is known by the Lord His lotus feet giving shelter.

Thus the forward steps of the Lord are the shelter for the upper, lower and heavenly planets, as well as for all that we need. His lotus feet serve as protection from all kinds of fear. (Vedabase)

Of water, of semen and of the generative of rains one realizes oneself the genitals of the Creator, the Lord and also the spot wherefrom the happiness originates engendered by the [need of the] begetting [of offspring or cultural products].

From the Lord's genitals originate water, semen, generatives, rains, and the procreators. His genitals are the cause of a pleasure that counteracts the distress of begetting. (Vedabase)

 

Text 9

O Nârada, the orifice where the evacuation of the Universal Form takes place is of Mitra, the controlling deity of everything running to its end and forms the rectum where envy, misfortune, death and hell are remembered.

O Nârada, the evacuating outlet of the universal form of the Lord is the abode of the controlling deity of death, Mitra, and the evacuating hole and the rectum of the Lord is the place of envy, misfortune, death, hell, etc. (Vedabase)

 

Text 10

Of frustration, immorality and ignorance His backside is found, while the rivers and streams [as said] make for His veins and the mountains for the stack of His bones.

The back of the Lord is the place for all kinds of frustration and ignorance, as well as for immorality. From His veins flow the great rivers and rivulets, and on His bones are stacked the great mountains. (Vedabase)

 

Text 11

The unseen mover [the time] of the seas and oceans of the becoming and annihilated beings as seen from His belly [the middle worlds, S'iva], is known by the intelligent as the [beating] heart with the subtle body for its location.

The impersonal feature of the Lord is the abode of great oceans, and His belly is the resting place for the materially annihilated living entities. His heart is the abode of the subtle material bodies of living beings. Thus it is known by the intelligent class of men. (Vedabase)

 

Text 12

Of the Great Personality is your, mine and also my sons' [the Kumâras] conscious heartening of the [religious] duties in the continuity [S'iva, the continuing soul facing the destruction] and the transcendental knowledge, the essential consciousness [soul] of truth.

Also, the consciousness of that great personality is the abode of religious principles--mine, yours, and those of the four bachelors Sanaka, Sanâtana, Sanat-kumâra and Sanandana. That consciousness is also the abode of truth and transcendental knowledge. (Vedabase)

 

Text 13-16

Me, you, the Lord continuing [S'iva], as also certainly the great sages before you, the godly, the demoniac, the human beings and the excellent [the Nâgas], the birds, the beasts, the reptiles and all the heavenly beings as well as the plants and many other living entities on the land, in the waters and in the sky, together with the asteroids, the radiant leading stars, the comets, the lightening and thunder - certainly as whatever was, is and will be created, are all together of the Original Person who covers all in the in the idea of measuring only half a foot [see also 2.2: 8].

Beginning from me [Brahmâ] down to you and Bhava [S'iva], all the great sages who were born before you, the demigods, the demons, the Nâgas, the human beings, the birds, the beasts, as well as the reptiles, etc., and all phenomenal manifestations of the universes, namely the planets, stars, asteroids, luminaries, lightning, thunder, and the inhabitants of the different planetary systems, namely the Gandharvas, Apsarâs, Yakshas, Râkshasas, Bhûtaganas, Uragas, Pas'us, Pitâs, Siddhas, Vidyâdharas, Câranas, and all other different varieties of living entities, including the birds, beasts, trees and everything that be, are all covered by the universal form of the Lord at all times, namely past, present and future, although He is transcendental to all of them, eternally existing in a form not exceeding nine inches. Text 17

The same way the sun in spreading its rays is outside, gives the life energy. (inside) and illumines his path, is there likewise by the expansion of the universal form, the Supreme Person vitalizing the internal and external of life.

The sun illuminates both internally and externally by expanding its radiation; similarly, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, by expanding His universal form, maintains everything in the creation both internally and externally. (Vedabase)

 

Text 18

He is the controller of the immortal and fearless in the transcendence over death and the fruit of anyone and therefore, o Nârada, are the glories of the Original Personality seen as being immeasurable.

The Supreme Personality of Godhead is the controller of immortality and fearlessness, and He is transcendental to death and the fruitive actions of the material world. O Nârada, o brâhmana, it is therefore difficult to measure the glories of the Supreme Person. (Vedabase)

 

Text 19

You should know that all the living entities exist in one fourth of the Supreme Person who is the immortal, fulfilling and fearlessness reservoir of all opulence beyond the material coverings of the three worlds.

The Supreme Personality of Godhead is to be known as the supreme reservoir of all material opulences by the one fourth of His energy in which all the living entities exist. Deathlessness, fearlessness and freedom from the anxieties of old age and disease exist in the kingdom of God, which is beyond the three higher planetary systems and beyond the material coverings. Text 20

The three fourths of Him in the beyond is where those reside who will never be reborn; but within [the material world] are there the three worlds [heaven, purgatory and hell] for the status orientations of those who, not strictly following the vow of celibacy, are attached to family life.

The spiritual world, which consists of three fourths of the Lord's energy, is situated beyond this material world, and it is especially meant for those who will never be reborn. Others, who are attached to family life and who do not strictly follow celibacy vows, must live within the three material worlds. (Vedabase)

 

Text 21

Thus neatly ordering the destination of the living beings, is the Maintainer ruling the devotion of both the nescient as the ones factually knowing, and is He thus, as the Original Personality of God, the master of both of them.

By His energies, the all-pervading Personality of Godhead is thus comprehensively the master in the activities of controlling and in devotional service. He is the ultimate master of both nescience and factual knowledge of all situations. (Vedabase)

 

Text 22

From whom all the planets and the gigantic universal form came, appeared the elements and the senses to the material qualities of the universes, to which the surpassing by that Universal Form is alike the way the sun relates to its distributed rays and heat.

From that Personality of Godhead, all the universal globes and the universal form with all material elements, qualities and senses are generated. Yet He is aloof from such material manifestations, like the sun, which is separate from its rays and heat. (Vedabase)

 

Text 23

When I took birth from the lotus flower from the navel of this great person, I did, except for the personal limbs of the Original Person not know of the ingredients for performing sacrifices.

When I was born from the abdominal lotus flower of the Lord [Mahâ-Vishnu], the great person, I had no ingredients for sacrificial performances except the bodily limbs of the great Personality of Godhead. (Vedabase)

 

Text 24

For the performance of sacrifices, is the sacrificed such as flowers and leaves and the burning material [such as straw] needed together with an altar as also the great of time [a calendar e.g.] in following the modes of nature.

For performing sacrificial ceremonies, one requires sacrificial ingredients, such as flowers, leaves and straw, along with the sacrificial altar and a suitable time [spring]. (Vedabase)

 

Text 25

Utensils, grains, fuel [clarified butter], sweetener ['honey'], capital ['gold'] and a fire place ['earth'], water, the scriptures ['Rig, Yajur and Sâma Veda'] and [at least] four [leading] persons are comprised in this, o pious one.

Other requirements are utensils, grains, clarified butter, honey, gold, earth, water, the Rig Veda, Yajur Veda and Sâma Veda and four priests to perform the sacrifice. (Vedabase)

 

Text 26

It also involves the invocation of holy names and mantras as also contributions and vows concerning the specific godhead at hand for which there is a particular scripture for each specific purpose.

Other necessities include invoking the different names of the demigods by specific hymns and vows of recompense, in accordance with the particular scripture, for specific purposes and by specific processes. (Vedabase)

 

Text 27

For progressing to the ultimate goal by means of the worship and surely also the compensation with the ultimate offerings to the diverse parts of the body of the Original Person [the representing demigods], I arranged for the ingredients.

Thus I had to arrange all these necessary ingredients and paraphernalia of sacrifice from the personal bodily parts of the Personality of Godhead. By invocation of the demigods' names, the ultimate goal, Vishnu, was gradually attained, and thus compensation and ultimate offering were complete. (Vedabase)

 

Text 28

Thus well-equipped worshiped I, executed by all those expansions of the Original Person, the Supreme Personality, the original enjoyer of all sacrifices.

Thus I created the ingredients and paraphernalia for offering sacrifice out of the parts of the body of the Supreme Lord, the enjoyer of the sacrifice, and I performed the sacrifice to satisfy the Lord. (Vedabase)

 

Text 29

Thereafter your [god-]brothers, the nine masters of the living creatures [schools; demigods next to Brahmâ; compare 5:30], performed for the personalities seen and unseen with proper ritual.

My dear son, thereafter your nine brothers, who are the masters of living creatures, performed the sacrifice with proper rituals to satisfy both the manifested and nonmanifested personalities. (Vedabase)

 

Text 30

In following those [schools or demigods] also the Manus, the fathers of mankind, worshiped in due course of time, as also did the other great sages, forefathers, scholars, devotees, and mankind as a whole in pleasing Him.

Thereafter, the Manus, the fathers of mankind, the great sages, the forefathers, the learned scholars, the Daityas and mankind performed sacrifices meant to please the Supreme Lord. (Vedabase)

 

Text 31

For the sake of Nârâyana, the Personality of Godhead, came all these greatly powerful manifestations, having accepted the material illusion of form in the universal sphere, into the existence of creation, maintenance and destruction, even though He Himself is self-sufficient above it.

All the material manifestations of the universes are therefore situated in His powerful material energies, which He accepts self-sufficiently, although He is eternally without affinity for the material modes. (Vedabase)

 

Text 32

To His will, I create while under His subordination S'iva destroys, with Himself thereto as the controller of the three energies maintaining the whole Universe as the Original Person.

By His will, I create, Lord S'iva destroys, and He Himself, in His eternal form as the Personality of Godhead, maintains everything. He is the powerful controller of these three energies. (Vedabase)

 

Text 33

Thus I explained on your request all this to you, my dear, concerning the matter of never having anything else beyond the Supreme Lord in thinking of cause and effect.

My dear son, whatever you inquired from me I have thus explained unto you, and you must know for certain that whatever there is. (either as cause or as effect, both in the material and spiritual worlds) is dependent on the Supreme Personality of Godhead. (Vedabase)

 

Text 34

O Nârada, for sure never did this state of mind prove to be false at any time, nor was my train of thought ever of the untrue, nor were my senses degraded in the temporal, because my heart with great zeal caught hold of the Lord.

O Nârada, because I have caught hold of the lotus feet of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Hari, with great zeal, whatever I say has never proved to have been false. Nor is the progress of my mind ever deterred. Nor are my senses ever degraded by temporary attachment to matter. (Vedabase)

 

Text 35

Being successful in the austerities of vedic wisdom according the disciplic succession, worshipable as the master of all the forefathers and expert and self-realized in the practice of yoga, I couldn't fully understand Him from whom the self generated.

Although I am known as the great Brahmâ, perfect in the disciplic succession of Vedic wisdom, and although I have undergone all austerities and am an expert in mystic powers and self-realization, and although I am recognized as such by the great forefathers of the living entities, who offer me respectful obeisances, still I cannot understand Him, the Lord, the very source of my birth. (Vedabase)

 

Text 36

I am [therefore] devoted to the all-auspicious feet of the Lord of the surrendered souls, who stop the repetition of births and deaths and grant the vision of happiness; one surely cannot estimate the potency of His personal energies- as much as the way the sky can't see its own limit, therefore: how can others know?

Therefore it is best for me to surrender unto His feet, which alone can deliver one from the miseries of repeated birth and death. Such surrender is all-auspicious and allows one to perceive all happiness. Even the sky cannot estimate the limits of its own expansion. So what can others do when the Lord Himself is unable to estimate His own limits? (Vedabase)

 

Text 37

Since neither I, nor all you sons, nor the Destroyer can factually know [of all] His movements, how then then would the other God-conscious? The intelligence bewildered by the illusory energy of what is created can only see as far as one's ability reaches.

Since neither Lord S'iva nor you nor I could ascertain the limits of spiritual happiness, how can other demigods know it? And because all of us are bewildered by the illusory external energy of the Supreme Lord, we can see only this manifested cosmos according to our individual ability. (Vedabase)

 

Text 38

Our respectful obeisances unto Him, the Supreme Lord, whose incarnation and activities we glorify, even though persons like us do not fully know Him.

Let us offer our respectful obeisances unto that Supreme Personality of Godhead, whose incarnations and activities are chanted by us for glorification, though He can hardly be fully known as He is. (Vedabase)

 

Text 39

He, the very Primordial Original Personality in each millennium creates from the unborn soul to the [material] self, by His own Self, His own transcendental presence maintaining Himself [for some time] as well as absorbing [Himself again].

That supreme original Personality of Godhead, Lord S'rî Krishna, expanding His plenary portion as Mahâ-Vishnu, the first incarnation, creates this manifested cosmos, but He is unborn. The creation, however, takes place in Him, and the material substance and manifestations are all Himself. He maintains them for some time and absorbs them into Himself again. (Vedabase)

 

Text 40-41

Without a material tinge, pure and perfect in knowledge and all pervading in His fullness He is situated in truth as the absolute without a beginning and an end, free from the modes of nature and eternally unrivaled. O wise one, the great thinkers can only understand this with a pacified self and their senses under cover, otherwise it will certainly be beyond their scope and distorted by untenable arguments.

The Personality of Godhead is pure, being free from all contaminations of material tinges. He is the Absolute Truth and the embodiment of full and perfect knowledge. He is all-pervading, without beginning or end, and without rival.

O Nârada, o great sage, the great thinkers can know Him when completely freed from all material hankerings and when sheltered under undisturbed conditions of the senses. Otherwise, by untenable arguments, all is distorted, and the Lord disappears from our sight. (Vedabase)

The first incarnation of the Lord, the Original Person [Mahâvishnu or Kâranodakas'âyi Vishnu] is time-space [the original nature of time]; and cause and effect, the elements, the modes, as also the ego, the senses and the mind are the diversity of the complete whole of all the animate and inimate of the universal being [called Garbhodakas'âyi Vishnu].

Kâranârnavas'âyî Vishnu is the first incarnation of the Supreme Lord, and He is the master of eternal time, space, cause and effects, mind, the elements, the material ego, the modes of nature, the senses, the universal form of the Lord, Garbhodakas'âyî Vishnu, and the sum total of all living beings, both moving and nonmoving. Text 43-45

I myself [Brahmâ], the Destroyer and the Maintainer, all the fathers of the living beings like Daksha [and Manu], you yourself and the other sons [the Kumâras], the leaders of the higher worlds, the spacetravelers, the earth and the lower worlds, the leaders of the denizens of heaven [of the Ghandarva,Vidyâdhara and Cârana worlds] as well as the leaders of the demoniac [the Yakshas, Râkshasas and Uragas] and the underworld as well as the leaders of the sages, the forefathers, the atheists, the miraculous, the uncivilized and also the dead, the evil spirits, the Jinn and Kûshmândas [other evil spirits] and the great aquatics, beasts and birds - in other words anything and everything in the world that is of power to a special degree or of a specific mental or perceptual dexterity or exceptional strength, forgiveness, beauty, modesty, opulence, intelligence or breeding are as if they are the form of His transcendental reality themselves, but in fact they are only a fragment of it.

I myself [Brahmâ], Lord S'iva, Lord Vishnu, great generators of living beings like Daksha and Prajâpati, yourselves [Nârada and the Kumâras], heavenly demigods like Indra and Candra, the leaders of the Bhûrloka planets, the leaders of the earthly planets, the leaders of the lower planets, the leaders of the Gandharva planets, the leaders of the Vidyâdhara planets, the leaders of the Câranaloka planets, the leaders of the Yakshas, Rakshas and Uragas, the great sages, the great demons, the great atheists and the great spacemen, as well as the dead bodies, evil spirits, satans, Jinn, Kûshmândas, great aquatics, great beasts and great birds, etc.--in other words, anything and everything which is exceptionally possessed of power, opulence, mental and perceptual dexterity, strength, forgiveness, beauty, modesty, opulence, and breeding, whether in form or formless--may appear to be the specific truth and the form of the Lord, but actually they are not so. They are only a fragment of the transcendental potency of the Lord. (Vedabase)

 

Text 46

O Nârada, now relish the devotion for the pastimes of all those incarnations of the Original Supreme Personality that will evaporate the foul matter accumulated in your ears. I will relate them, all a pleasure to hear, one after the other as they are in my heart.

O Nârada, now I shall state, one after another, the transcendental incarnations of the Lord known as lîlâ-avatâras. Hearing of their activities counteracts all foul matters accumulated in the ear. These pastimes are pleasing to hear and are to be relished. Therefore they are in my heart. (Vedabase)
